He knows how a beautiful smile opens many doors in a person’s life by making them more confident and outgoing and helping their self-esteem. He has learned through many years of practice that it takes a team effort to achieve a goal of a great smile. He has created an environment that brings everyone together as a team with a common goal.
The resulting smiles are truly helping patients become all they can be.
Dr. Catharine Borders knows that a smile from a loved one, friend or complete stranger can brighten someone’s day. She chose to become an orthodontist to create beautiful smiles for her patients that will give them the confidence and self-esteem to smile and brighten the day of those around them.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry from the University of Louisville. She graduated valedictorian from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, where she received her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. After dental school, she attended residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry, receiving her certificate in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics and Master of Science in dentistry. Dr. Borders served as chief resident during her residency and currently serves as a part-time professor of orthodontics at UT-Houston dental school.
Dr. Borders is a board-certified orthodontist.
Richmond Braces
Traditional braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we have. They're made out of metal or ceramic brackets that are attached to the teeth, then connected by wires and tiny rubber bands or elastics. These brackets, wires, and bands work together to apply the gentle pressure that will gradually move the teeth into the positions we want them to be in if you have regular adjustments with our doctors.
Richmond braces are an excellent choice for correcting complex tooth issues. Because they can sometimes work faster at aligning teeth and closing gaps than other treatments might, overall treatment time may be slightly reduced. Braces don't need some of the more complex technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can, making Richmond braces a cost-effective orthodontic option.
Richmond Invisalign
Invisalign is incredibly popular with both patients and orthodontists and is the top alternative to traditional braces. Instead of brackets and bands, the Richmond Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth.
Invisalign aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and customized to fit snugly over your teeth. In order to keep your teeth moving in the direction you want them to, you'll generally need to switch your invisible trays out every 1-2 weeks for the next in the series. The Invisalign system can only work if the recommended guidelines are followed exactly! Aligners should be worn 20-22 hours per day throughout treatment. If patients neglect to wear the aligners as directed, it can impede the results and also add time to the orthodontic process.
Invisalign is at its most efficient when correcting many of the most common orthodontic issues. For some complex cases, Invisalign may not be a good option. A free consultation with Mahlmann & Borders Orthodontics will allow us to determine your Invisalign eligibility.
